Changes to a student's living location

Students must keep their living location on their application up to date. If they told us they were living in their own accommodation in the academic year but will now live at home, they must update their application. This will make sure they get the correct amount of student finance.

This also applies to students who expected to be studying abroad during the academic year. If they'll now be staying in the UK and studying online with their overseas provider, they'll no longer be entitled to the 'overseas' rate of Maintenance Loan. They can update their details through their online account.

Starting a course on or after 1 January 2027

If a student is starting a higher education course on or after 1 January 2027, they can apply for student finance from September 2026 (opens in a new tab).
